We design Flanigan Bilt Putters by tailoring and redesigning classic putters to make them putt with tremendous feel– from a four inch putt, to a forty foot putt. We accomplish this by using high quality steels and refining measurements to place the center of gravity in an optimal place on the face of the putter. This provides forgiveness and feel for the highest MOI (moment of inertia) for that particular style of putter, yet keeps the classic and clean look of any putter in the industry. Flanigan Bilt Putters’ goal is to keep the putter sleek and classic with optimal feel.
Ken comes from a long line of metal workers and welders. His father, Hugh (himself a second generation welder), spent over 50 years mastering the craft and began teaching Ken to weld and work with metal when he was just 12 years old. Ken then gained an in-depth understanding of the properties of different types of carbons and stainless steels from his father-in-law, Lee Watkins, who spent over 50 years in the steel forging industry.
Early on Ken took a keen interest in golf and golf equipment and became fascinated with the different designs and their impact on the game. Ken spent over 20 years as head grounds keeper which gave him valuable experience in topography and the knowledge of the grass types, by which, he created, built and supervised the building of a private golf green for a golf team to practice on. He also served as Junior Varsity golf coach for 7 years. It was around this time that he also began to collect and trade golf clubs. While he dealt with all types of clubs from all generations, he developed a special affection for vintage and classics clubs, particularly putters.
Golf was not Ken’s only passion growing up. He also admired and wanted to join the ranks of America’s firefighters. He accomplished this dream in 2001 when he passed all required tests and training to become a firefighter (240/EMT) in Newbury, Ohio. Ken served for 10 years until his other passion required him to give up firefighting and commit himself full time to designing and building putters.
In addition to his work with putters, Ken is also a TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Level 2 fitness instructor and Level 2 junior fitness instructor. Ken continues to reside in Newbury, Ohio with his wife Elizabeth, and their three children. Ken and Elizabeth give all credit and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ of their ability, knowledge, resources and success of their business (Acts 17:24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.") and they are active members at Parkside Church in Bainbridge, Ohio.
